Curatorial Statement
Time is a construct shaped by the seasons, the body, daily use and routines. ‘Clock time’ divides the day into equal units, while biological clocks tick to their own rhythms. SAFFRON CLOCK considers how functional art objects measure time through heat, repetition, and gesture, especially as they are integrated into daily life. “Time” here is lived, not abstract, tracked through consciousness, memory and appetite.
Alex ‘Al’ Correia’s clocks are fully functional, yet resist the neutrality we expect from instruments of timekeeping. Drawing from a background in architectural design and fabrication, his works are built objects as much as works of art.
In Frankie Pittorf’s ceramics, time folds back on itself. Working from childhood drawings and personal memory, Pittorf builds forms that are playful and direct. Their handbuilt vessels meld the past and present together, an embodiment of the wisdom and genius of thier inner child.
Marsha Sue Trattner, a blacksmith and artist based in Brooklyn, directs our attention back to the domestic sphere with her metal lotus pans where cooking, holding, and reheating become measures of the everyday. Her modern heirlooms are built to last across lifetimes.
Eva Goodman’s hand-blown glass vessels and cups move between sculpture and everyday use. In her "L-O-V-E” Series, hearts and rainbows sit on a transparent surface, direct and intentional reminders to love ‘what is’ with openness and freedom.
The art objects in SAFFRON CLOCK track their own time through experience, attention and use. Together, these works insist on time as something lived through embodied presence.
